Dismissed Gendarmerie Captain Faces Legal Threats After Explosive Interview

Cameroon\'s National Chamber of Criminal Experts has threatened legal action against Captain Effoudou Awussi Kenneth Romuald following remarks he made during a 27-minute interview titled L\'enfer du paradis de Paul Biya (\"The Hell of Paul Biya\'s Paradise\").

The former head of the intelligence bureau at the Presidency\'s General Staff was dismissed from the armed forces by Presidential Decree No. 2026/234 of 25 June 2026 for what authorities described as habitual misconduct resulting from prolonged unauthorised absence.

During the interview, Effoudou made a series of serious allegations against several senior state officials, accusing them of corruption, drug and arms trafficking, and plotting a coup d\'état. He also claimed he had received death threats and alleged that he fled because his life was in danger. Among those he named were Minister of State and Secretary-General at the Presidency Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, Special Adviser Vice Admiral Joseph Fouda, Squadron Leader Bissé Vladimir, Lieutenant Colonel Dieudonné Bialo and former Defence Minister Rémy Ze Meka.

The allegations have not been substantiated, and the officials named have not publicly responded to the claims. The National Chamber of Criminal Experts says the former officer could face legal proceedings over his statements.
