6th Edition of Honorable Ndive David Football Tournament Kicks Off in Buea

The Bokoko-Bunduma community field in Buea on Sunday, July 12, 2026, was a center of attraction as thousands of football enthusiasts poured in to witness the opening game of the 6th edition of the Honorable Ndive David Mende Football Tournament.

The ceremony was attended by the dignitaries, including the traditional ruler of Bunduma, the organizer, Honorable Ndive David Mende, former footballers, and sport lovers from far and near.

Two young aspiring football stars gave the ceremonial kick-off for the opening match pitting Above 35 Bunduma against Buea Town FC.

The match was characterized by tactical play and a fanfare atmosphere, with fans turning out in large numbers, creating a vibrant atmosphere as the community once again rallied behind one of their sons to witness the most celebrated grassroots football tournament.

At full time, Above 35 Bunduma emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 victory over Buea Town FC.

Speaking to the press after the match, the convenor of the tournament, Honorable Ndive David Mende, stated that the tournament is meant to keep the youths busy and away from drugs and other societal vices that are fast creeping into many communities nowadays.

\"We have made provisions to sensitize the population about drug abuse and all other irrelevant materials that may cause harm to the youths of Buea,\" he said.

He also enjoined the youths to remain agents of meaningful development in the community and the Municipality at large.

\"Bunduma is not a village anymore because it is in the middle of the town and Buea is almost fast developing, and we have to cross our fingers to foster the development that Buea needs by bringing activities like this to make the youth very happy and busy,\" he stated.

The tournament held under the theme \"Giving back to the community\" has also received praise from community leaders and former football players.

Marcus Meende, a former football player and supporter of the Ndive David Mendez Football Tournament, commended the organizer for impacting the youths through the sporting activity.

\"From one million to three million Francs CFA is not an easy thing. This competition is to make the youths of today come around and together we can build our community,\" one supporter said.

The 6th edition of the Honorable Ndive David Mende Football Tournament also featured other innovations, such as vendors\' exhibition that came up from Wednesday to Saturday and also increased the cash prize from two million to three million francs.

Prior to the opening match, the event featured a ceremonial handing over of the cup by last year\'s champions, MMS, who returned the championship trophy they won last year.

It should be noted that the 6th edition of the Honorable Ndive David Mende Football Tournament will run one month, that is, from July to August, with a total of 16 teams taking part in the competition to secure the grand prize of 3 million Francs CFA for the team who emerged as winners.

The tournament will feature teams from Bokwai, Buea Town, Bunduma, Great Soppo, Mini Coquette, and other neighborhoods as a sign of living together and solidarity.
