Yaoundé Military Court Shown Graphic Video Evidence in Martinez Zogo Trial

Proceedings in the trial linked to the killing of journalist Martinez Zogo were suspended on Monday evening and are set to resume Tuesday at 10 a.m., following a tense day marked by emotional testimony and the presentation of graphic video evidence in court.
The hearing at the Yaoundé Military Tribunal was adjourned at 5:46 p.m. at the request of civil party lawyers, after an earlier session that saw the court view, for the first time since the start of proceedings, video footage allegedly showing the late journalist in distress.
At around 2:45 p.m., the tribunal was shown the video, which, according to accounts presented in court, depicted Mr Zogo undergoing severe mistreatment and pleading for help, with no assistance forthcoming. The footage reportedly left sections of the courtroom visibly shaken.
Prosecutors and civil parties told the court that the video was not recovered from devices seized from the accused persons. Instead, it was said to have been retrieved from a Google account linked to an individual identified as Oumarou, following digital forensic investigations.
The investigating magistrate continues to examine the evidence as part of ongoing proceedings. Further cross-examinations of both defendants and civil parties are expected when the case resumes on Tuesday.
