Douala City Mayor Salutes Nico Halle’s Moral Advocacy, Dev’t Vision
By Lasha Kingsly
The City Mayor of Douala, Dr. Hon. Roger Mbassa Ndine, has lauded the long-standing commitment of peace advocate Sir Dr. Bar. Nico Halle to the promotion of love, justice, good governance, and social harmony, describing his efforts as a noble moral crusade that resonates both nationally and internationally.
The mayor made the remarks during a recent exchange, during which he disclosed that reflections are underway for the creation of a special commission aimed at accelerating development in certain localities of the city, notably Bonabéri and Manoka, which continue to face challenges related to accessibility and basic infrastructure.
According to the city mayor, the concerns raised by Sir Dr. Ntumfor Nico Halle extend beyond road infrastructure to include broader development needs such as improved connectivity and enhanced social amenities. In this regard, studies are being envisaged for major infrastructure projects, including the possible construction of a third bridge over the Wouri River, intended to facilitate mobility and reduce travel time for inhabitants of the affected areas.
Dr. Roger Mbassa Dine underscored the importance of promoting peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and love for one another as essential pillars for sustainable urban development in Douala. He reiterated the commitment of the City Council to work closely with traditional authorities, civil society, and other stakeholders to provide lasting solutions to the concerns expressed by the population.
For his part, Sir Dr. Bar Nico Halle expressed appreciation to the municipal authorities for the recognition accorded to what he described as more than three decades of advocacy centred on moral values, justice, and peace. He noted that a society founded on equity, love, and good governance is more likely to guarantee stability and improve the wellbeing of citizens.
The peace advocate, however, decried the persistence of corruption, which he said continues to slow down the country’s development despite its enormous natural and human potential. He observed that rising poverty, unemployment, and the insufficiency of key infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, schools, and transport systems point to the need for renewed collective efforts.
Sir Dr. Bar Nico Halle called on citizens, the media, and public authorities to intensify the promotion of ethical values while combating corruption, hate speech, and xenophobia. He emphasised that the construction of a prosperous nation requires solid moral foundations capable of ensuring fairness and equal opportunity for all.
He further noted that the quest for justice and ethical leadership goes beyond individual responsibility, stressing that unity and national progress require the commitment of all. He encouraged Cameroonians to remain steadfast in promoting values of solidarity, accountability, and sustainable development for the benefit of present and future generations.
