Bangolan Chieftaincy Cisis: NGODECA Condemns Alleged Move to Dethrone Fon Chafah

The Ngoketunjia Development and Cultural Association (NGODECA) has strongly condemned what it describes as unlawful attempts by a group of individuals to destabilise Bangolan village in Ngoketunjia Division.

In a correspondence dated February 17, 2026, and addressed to the notables and people of Bangolan, the President General of NGODECA, Hon. Ngangjoh Mama Lamya, denounced reported efforts to dethrone His Majesty Fon Chafah, Paramount Ruler of the Bangolan people.

The association considers the alleged move as a violation of the village’s long-standing traditions and customs. According to NGODECA, Fon Chafah remains the legitimate traditional authority and custodian of Bangolan’s cultural heritage.

The statement describes the reported actions as “subversive” and warns that any attempt to undermine the traditional institution through illegal or unconstitutional means threatens the unity and stability of the village.

NGODECA called on those involved to immediately retract their actions and urged sons and daughters of Bangolan to rally behind the Fon in the interest of peace and development.

The association further emphasised that disputes related to succession and leadership should be resolved through established customary channels, noting that respect for institutions remains key to stability and meaningful development.

Copies of the correspondence were sent to regional and divisional administrative authorities, including the Governor of the North West Region and the Senior Divisional Officer for Ngoketunjia.
