60th Youth Day Celebrations: Omam Esther Urges Youths to Take Charge of Their Future

In a strong message addressed to young people, the Executive Director of Reach Out Cameroon, Omam Esther, has called on youths to take responsibility for their future through resilience, innovation, and self-reliance.
Speaking as a leader and mentor, Omam Esther acknowledged the difficult socio-economic conditions facing young people today but insisted that hard times do not mean impossible times. She noted that history has shown that the greatest breakthroughs often emerge during periods of pressure.
She reminded youths that they are not a lost generation but a rising one, stressing that the future begins now through the choices they make daily, the skills they choose to learn, the ideas they dare to test, and the small businesses they start with limited capital but strong determination.
According to her, resilience is not only about surviving but about building, even when conditions are not perfect. She encouraged young people to explore opportunities in agriculture, innovation, digital skills, creative industries, local transformation, and social entrepreneurship, adding that wealth can be created within communities and not only in big cities or foreign lands.
Omam Esther further urged youths to choose self-reliance over dependency, skills over excuses, and action over complaint. She called on them to engage in innovative activities, form cooperatives, learn trades, use technology wisely, and add value to what their communities already produce.
She also cautioned against destructive habits that could jeopardize their future, urging them to protect their integrity, character, and peace of mind, while emphasizing that no honest work is small and that every legitimate effort contributes to personal dignity and national development.
She concluded by reaffirming her confidence in the capacity of young people to overcome challenges and shape a better tomorrow, insisting that the future belongs to those who prepare for it today.
Omam Esther is the Executive Director of Reach Out Cameroon, Global Peace Champion, and Country Chair for Monitoring and Motivation.
