NCC Boss Summoned To Court Over Sanction Against Journalist

The President of Cameroon’s National Communication Council (NCC), Joseph Chebonkeng Kalabubsu, has been summoned to appear before a magistrate in Ngoumou, Mefou and Akono Division of the Centre Region, on September 30, 2026.

The summons follows a complaint reportedly filed by journalist Martial Owona and the Public Prosecutor.

Owona, News Director at Vision 4 TV, was suspended by the NCC for three months in August 2026 following a complaint from the Cameroon Bar Association over a report concerning a lawyer involved in the Martinez Zogo case.

Speaking on September 22, Kalabubsu reportedly said he was surprised by the development, adding that he learnt of the summons through social media and was awaiting its official service.

The case has renewed discussion over the relationship between media regulation and judicial proceedings in Cameroon.
