Cameroon, France Strengthen Cooperation On Civil Security

Cameroon and France have discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in civil security and improve the protection of populations against disasters.

The discussions took place on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, when Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji received France’s Ambassador to Cameroon, Sylvain Riquier, in audience in Yaounde.

According to information from the Ministry of Territorial Administration, the meeting reviewed ongoing cooperation between the two countries in civil security and examined avenues for further collaboration.

Particular attention was given to the development of a call management centre, with the objective of improving the speed of emergency responses and strengthening assistance to populations in times of disaster.

The two officials also discussed cooperation with civil society organisations, including the need to ensure that such partnerships operate within Cameroon’s regulatory framework while meeting the requirements of international partners.

Ambassador Riquier was accompanied by the Embassy’s Political Counsellor, Damien Cusey. The Cameroonian delegation included the Director of Political Affairs, Salomon Issanda Issanda.

Speaking after the meeting, Ambassador Riquier expressed satisfaction with the bilateral relations between Cameroon and France.

Riquier officially took office as France’s ambassador to Cameroon on September 1, 2026, following his appointment by French President Emmanuel Macron. He succeeded Lieutenant General Thierry Marchand, who served as ambassador from 2022.
