
A Nigerian national has been caught with 7.9kg of cocaine in his luggage at the Yaounde Nsemalem international airport. The suspected drug tracker Onboard Ethiopian airline from Addis Ababa was caught on June 7, 2022 by the Nsimalem airport anti-trafficking unit with the aid and collaboration of Cameroonian customs.
Reports say, this is the second major cocaine seizure made at the airport in the space of six months. A female passenger boarding the same airline from Nigeria was arrested on January 24, 2022 in possession of 4.5kg of “white powder”
Another report says, a Nigerian passenger from Lagos through Addis Ababa with the same Ethiopian airline was caught carrying 10kg of cocaine. These seizures have helped to curb the gateway of cocaine to Cameroon from other countries.
It should be noted that ,drug trafficking is a global illicit trade involving the cultivation , manufacture, distribution and sales of substances which are subject to drug prohibition laws and this drug trafficking serve as a source of revenue for organized crime groups
