Mulltitalented Cameroonian singer and songwriter, Awu Sing Song , has released his new album titled “sound of heritage”
The album is now available on all streaming platforms Friday May 27, 2022
The release preceded an official announcement that was made during a press conference, Wednesday 25th May at the St John’s Plaza in Douala.
Talking to the press, and other personalities Awu’s team said, they, had come to gather joint efforts push foward Cameroonian music . The 15-track album, The artist said , is centered on Makossa which represent our musical “heritage” with a blend of Afro beats , what he called “” Kossa fusion” The artist noted that, the Makossa genre inspired him ; being one of the greatest genres in the world and what Cameroonian music is known for.
” My inspiration comes from the Makossa genre, beciause it had been one of the grratest in the world and what Cameroon is known for, as youths who had identified with it , we should revive it and bring it back to life, our fathers did it , we too can, my music is a mixture of Afro beats and Makossa..” he said.
Aside being inspired by Makossa, Awu’s Album and music in general, aims t reinforcing the uniqueness of Africa , its music, culture, lifestyle . He carefully uses his personal experience from his place of birth, Bamenda in the North west region of Cameroon and his travel experiences to convert messages of love, resilience, reflecting humans daily life struggles through his songs.
The recent Sound of Heritage Album according to his team, is already receiving praise reports from top cities around the world including Cameroon, Nigeria, United States of America, United Kingdom amongst others.
The Album also featured some unique prominent artistes such as Phillbill and Orijina Mara, whose blended vocals, creates a whole new dimension of music.
Each track , has been carefully put together; from the lyrics, vocals, melody and final production, to give a total vibe that not only resonates with both the young and old but also gets your whole body moving with the Sounds of Heritage .
By his real name, Awunganyi Etiendem Nkemasong , Awu Sing Song, was born to both Cameroonian parents on the 12th of July 1995, in Bamenda Northwest Region . Awu is known to be an extremely talented Makossa-fusion singer, Songwriter, multiple in-strumentalist and complete musician who started recording music at the tender age of seventeen 17.
Legendary musicians like Kotto Bass, Petit Pays, Manu Dibango and Bob Marley had major influences on Awu’s sounds as he said to have listened to their works alot while growing up and practicing.
Awu has great love and passion for philanthropic works due to his personal experiences while growing up in Bamenda. During one of his philanthropic work outing in 2012, he met Colby Jeffers an American socially conscious rapper. They got inspired by each other’s works and sounds and both decided to form a Music duo known as “ Colby and Awu”.
On the 7th of March 2013, the music duo released their album’s lead single “ Change The World “, which was positively received world-wide and saw the single trend to the top especially in an island “ called Vanuatu. Later that year, Colby and Awu released their debut album, which saw both singers bridge continents to bring an album preaching peace and environmental sustainability. This album was supported by eight 8singles notably, “ Change The World “, “ Paridgm”, “ Don’t Quit”, “Green Go Green,” “ I believe “ Penniless Artist” “ Need a Doctor” and “Ubuntu.
In 2014, the duo decided to part ways and begin their separate solo careers. From then on, through hard work, consistency in recording and releasing quality music, Awu as a solo artiste, has grown to become a very popular singer ,musician in Cameroon with ambition to take over Africa and the world.
