Douala Grand Mall:UK-trained Construction Project Manager Recommends Induction For Users.

Politics

The behaviour of customers at the newly opened Douala Grand Mall poorly using the facilities of the mall has been qualified by many as primitive. A UK trained engineer, Callistus Fonjong thinks otherwise. He blames what many term primitivity on the owner whom he believes has failed to enlightens customers who are the end users on the use of some facilities in the shopping centre.

“It’s the responsibility of the owners of the mall to study the behaviour of their customers, who in this case are the end users. It means that the facility management company of the mall (if there is one), should have the responsibility of carrying out inductions to ALL customers before they commence their shopping. Part of the induction would involve educating customers on the safe use of escalators especially for those who have never used escalators. We should not expect everyone to have the same life experience.”

He there fore urges the management of the mall to hire the services of a facility manager

“I am strongly requesting that the mall hires a Health and Safety Executive or a facility manager. His/her task would be to shut down the Douala shopping centre. After training and inducting selected members of staff, the staff would in turn induct all visitors on site. “

“Primitive behavior by customers at the new Douala mall?

Some people think so because customers, probably first-time users were falling on the escalators.

I wouldn’t laugh at the escalator-falling customers. I would like to see things from a professional stand point.

After the handover stage of a construction project comes the operational stage.

Those who fell on those escalators have the right to sue the management of the mall or at least ask the mall owners/management to apologise to them.

We need to take health and safety on sites seriously.

While you see ‘primitive behavior’ exhibited by some of the customers, I see lack of health and safety measures/standards being exhibited by the management of that shopping mall.

Janet Jackson and Missy Elliott once went out for shopping in California. At the till, Missy Elliott took out a credit/debit card to pay for her purchsed items. Janet Jackson told Missy Elliott she didn’t know people could pay for their shopping at grocery with credit cards. Missy Elliott was embarrassed because those standing close to them were surprised Ms Jackson was that ignorant. But I don’t think they were thinking Janet Jackson was primitive.

We should not look low on those shoppers at the newly opened Douala Mall.”
