The second biannual conference of regional governors opened in Yaounde today. The meeting to run from November 16 to 17, 2020 at the Yaounde City Council focuses on the examination of the security situation in the country, adequate practical answers relating to the organisation of regional elections and the end of year festivities.
In his opening remarks Cameroon’s Territorial Administration minister Paul Atanga Nji called on the governors to remain vigilant. He also called their attention on the government response to strategy to fight Covid-19 pandemic that must remain a national concern.
The regional Governors were also instructed to give all the necessary support and security assistance to Elections Cameroon the independent body charged with the management of elections in the country . MINAT also insisted that security must be a priority before, during and after electoral period. During the meeting the Secretary General in charge of the National Gendarmerie and the Delegate General for National Security presented an expose on “security measures taken during regional elections of December 6, 2020 and end of year festivities”. The Regional Governors also listened to an expose of the Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development on the theme “involvement of governor in the setting up of regional bodies”.
